Saturday, Surfing and Boogie-Board events took place all morning in 1 to 2 meter waves ( 3 to 6 feet). During the afternoon, 20 racers participated for the Cabarete to Encuentro long-distance race, which was held in light wind conditions. Lukrezia Edinger from Germany, won the women's division and Udo Jansen also from Germany, won the men's division with a spectacular pass at the finish line.

Sunday, surfing conditions were excellent and all surfing categories were completed, thanks to the race committee. Pedro Fernandez, 16 years old from Santo-Domingo, won the junior category over 13 year old Rafael Martinez, from Cabarete. The boogie board winner was Rafael Castillo, from Santo-Domingo and Andy A. Lorenzo from Santo-Domingo took second place. The Surf open was won by Orlando (Cacale) Bonilla, who also won last year, followed by Victor Peralta and Eric Franco.

Due to his excellent surfing performance, the "1998 Master of the Ocean" was awarded to Orlando Bonilla of Sosua. He said this event was his last and he will step aside to let others win. The "Master of the Ocean" for women was awarded to 7 year old Elena Coutu from Cabarete, for her outstanding performance in the 7 kilometer Long Distance race from Cabarete to Playa Encuentro. She has been windsurfing for only 8 months.

Encuentro proved that it is a great beach for an event. We hope to see you all next year for the fourth edition of the Encuentro Classic which is scheduled for three days in early March 1999.
