Just east of the town of Miches is where true paradise can be found. Also called "Costa Esmeralda". The two lagoons, Redonda and Limon, and surrounding area has been declared National Park which makes sure that it will stay a paradise in the future.

The way to experience this part of the Dominican Republic, is to stay at one of the few small lodging facilities, far away from the bustling all-inclusives further to the south, in the Punta Cana and Bavaro areas.

These small hotels will also help you with excursions and activities. A "must" is the trip on silent, electrically-powered boats through the mangroves swamps of "Redonda" lagoon. If you are there between mid-January to mid-March be sure not to miss a whale-watching tour in the Bay of Samana.
