Hi George,

In general, you can expect fantastic weather in August. It is the hottest month of the year but the water is just at the right temperature at 26?C (79?F) to cool you down compared to the outside temperature, and warm enough so you can spend endless hours in the water.

In August, the sun rises at 6:20AM and sets at 7:20PM. You have about 13 hours of sunlight. We are not that far away from the equator, so the difference in daylight time between summer and winter is relatively low.

The longest: June 22 ->
Begin civil twilight      05:39
Sunrise                   06:04
Sun transit               12:44
Sunset                    19:23
End civil twilight        19:48

The shortest day: Dec 22 ->
Begin civil twilight      06:48
Sunrise                   07:12
Sun transit               12:40
Sunset                    18:09
End civil twilight        18:33

Hi
I would like to know the best month(s) to visit the Dominican.  My mum has decided to get married there.  We want to avoid the hurricane seasons. We are wanting it to be clear and sunny but not too hot for children to play.  I hope you can help!

Any time of the year is pretty good, but if you definitely want to skip a hurricane adventure then avoid August to November.

The hottest months are July and August.

We've booked a honeymoon to the Punta Cana resort on the 8th August. What are the chances of a hurricane hitting us?!

Thanks. Lisa x

The best place to be in June is the North Coast (around Puerto Plata). Punta Cana, on the East Coast, gets in average more rain than on any other month. However, it's still low precipitation compared to most other places in the Dominican Republic.

Get the full story at the following link http://www.hispaniola.com/dominican_republic/info/nature_climate.php

These are all averages taken over many many years. One cannot predict weather very well in the Dominican Republic, not for any part of the country. Take any month of any place in the country and see what the rain was like for that month year after year. The differences are enormous, one year it rains a lot the next year it doesn't rain at all - sunshine every day. In statistical terms, the standard deviation is very high.

However, this is the Dominican Republic, and it is very rare that you will not get plenty of sunshine within a week, or two week vacation. When it rains, it is usually a heavy shower and then the sun shines again.

Hopefully it will be sunny as i will be there to in June.

I keep checking the weather but for the next 10 days it showers and thunder but it does seem to be easing off.

We went 3 years ago in June and it was over 90 every day it was red hot, but dont let the rain bother you as when your there it can rain for 20mins solid then with 5 minutes its bone dry and blistering hot.

So fingers crossed that we both get a great sunny holiday
