Coming from the UK, since exchanging money there is qiute expensive (high commission rate), you are probably best off coming to the Dominican Republic with your Pounds and exchanging them to pesos right here. But in general, the exchange rate between US$ and the Pesos is the better and for other currencies.

Don't exchange at hotels - they take a huge cut. The best places are in banks.

The rates you can see on the left are very good rates and are usually somewhat higher than you can find in tourist areas.
