Business Hours in the Dominican Republic

Business hours can be quite different in tourism destinations than they are in the rest of the Dominican Republic. Businesses in tourism destinations are often open into the evening and on Sundays, to serve tourists, which is not the norm for the entire country. Typically, retail/wholesale businesses are open from 8 pm to 6 pm, Monday to Friday, until mid-day on Saturdays, and are closed on Sundays. Banks, regardless of their location, are usually open from 8 am to 4 pm, Monday - Friday, with a few locations open Saturday mornings as well. Some businesses follow the Spanish 'siesta' philosophy, by closing their business for a long lunch from 12:30 until 2:00 pm.
