Sailing in the Dominican Republic
Most sailboats cruising through the Caribbean make a point of stopping in the Dominican Republic, to see a little of the country, to connect with other sailors, or stock up on supplies for the rest of their journey. Boats moor predominantly at the larger marina locations in Puerto Plata, Luperón, Samaná and Bayahibe. Luperón is the only 'safe' harbor in the Dominican Republic. If you would like to go sailing once you are here, group day trips are offered on larger sailboats and catamarans through Tour Operators in most of the larger tourism destinations in the Dominican Republic, leaving from Puerto Plata, Luperón, Samaná and Bayahibe. There are also watersports clubs at many tourism destinations offering catamaran and/or dinghy rental for personal sailing use.
